The Radioactive Waste Management Centre is a service department of the division, which ensures complex activities in the field of radioactive waste management. The main activities of the department include:

  • Disposal of institutional radioactive waste (e.g.: contaminated PPE and laboratory material, contaminated scrap metal, air filters, glass components of apparatuses, liquid radioactive waste, closed radiators, ionisation fire detectors, etalons, etc.)
  • Decontamination of workplaces and technology equipment
  • Sanitation of damages to the environment and decommissioning of workplaces dealing with sources of ionising radiation
  • Transportation and storage of spent nuclear fuel from research nuclear reactors
  • Captures of sources of ionising radiation outside the workplaces dealing with such sources
  • Monitoring and locating the sources of ionising radiation (e.g. within the premises of plants such as landfills, scrap metal stockyards, etc.)
  • Non-destructive characterisation of sources of ionising radiation including radiographic survey inside the buildings
  • Research and development in the field of characterisation of sources of ionising radiation, decontamination, processing and conditioning of radioactive waste
  • Consultancy and advisory services in the above mentioned fields
